- channels palette. - new spot channel - use the picker - not spot colour
- name our channel. - include the word spot - so the channels you create are uniquely identified and worn be confused with cmyk
- foreground colour - make sure black
- sue brush and paint selected areas - working with transparency - doesn't go over black
- switch to paint with white - to remove colour
- painting with 'black and white' - because we are working with positives to print - set as colour - set to print.
- channel is actuarially only black and white image - using colour to see how it could look printed in colour - easy to alter and experiment with different colours.
- double click on spot channel - to change the colour

creating a new spot channel additionally to other coloured - difficult to see true representation because of other colours- turn of cmyk
- viewing without cmyk - use brightness/contrast to create a positive/negative - alter to create black and white - brightness and contrast.
- click cmyk - select - colour range - choose area of tone that you want to select as a new channel - make sure you select carefully - click until you reach - light/medium/dark - ayer fuzziness.
- then create new spot channel - can alter the colour
- name all colour - then spot - to differentiate from cmyk.
- can make adjustments to clean up each channel
- svae as - spot colours has to be ticked. - photoshop or tiff
open in illustrator
- window - separations preview ( to see if colour is accurate to photoshop file - allows to check
- tick overprint preview - turn off cmyk - to see 3 spot channels
- file - print - print our positives
- frile - print - output - separations. - to activate the inks
turn off cmyk. (by unblocking the ink)
printing larger than A3:
- split the channels - in photoshop - have one for each of the spot colours - save and take to digital resource.
save copy.
- using half tones.
- create blank spot channel
- select colour range - mood tones -
- sleety the selection colour grey. - then click blank spot channel. - edit fill - foreground colour - ok = set new colour channel selected grey.
- repeat same with other tones. - select colour range - black area - then click the newly created spot channel - check foreground colour is that requiewd - edit - fill foreground colour
- remember when choosing colour range - click cmyk
- use paint brush to clean up excess marks.
Overprinting/knocking out
overlap - spot channels simulate the transparency of printing ink.
double click on spot channel - options - solidity - allows you to change how transparent/opaque our printing ink is.
- if printed with an opaque ink - increase to 100%
- drag the layers to re arrange order - alters how the image presents
