Wood Block Printing

Wood block printing,
- This would be a very ambitious project and perhaps not really achievable within the time limit of the project - as well as juggling other modules. However its a process that really captures my interest and admiration. I am amazed at how much detail can be created in such a way! I love the preciseness and perfect quality of line you can find within a woodblock print.

Clare leighton.
Beautiful flowing lines and layers of tone provide so much detail and depth to this print. It has a great balance of light and dark to the image - despite all being in one tone, its broken up really well. The detail is incredible but its still kept that wood cut feel to it.

Andrew Davison.
This print is so rich in detail. You almost can't really tell that its wood block print! i absolutely love it, but feel that if its this aesthetic i liked - it could be created in ink perhaps. I think it'd want something more organic? - less detailed if approaching wood cut.

Ray Morimura.
- is someone i have revisited. I just think her work is incredible! i am so intrigued to know how she creates such beautiful and perfect wood block prints. The line and detail is so well considered and executed. - the details are very structured which gives a unique quality to her work, and creates a surreal atmosphere, and distortion of reality within her prints.
- I like that although rich in detail, they're really true to the style of wood block printing - lots of line.
- The colour palettes are subtle and soft which i think work really well to break up the image but not overpower.
