Storyboards & Roughs
My thoughts:
Visualising my ideas really helped in making a decision.
From a group crit, it was said that the narrative story came across as being a bit boring. - which i would agree. - it wasn't really exciting, and highlighted the life of an ammonite as being boring.
I then realised that i wanted the book to be more informative; to teach people about these incredible ancient animals.
- The subject itself is one that many people maybe wouldn't think about, - the ammonite animal isn't well known. - I want the book to make people interested in the subject, and to do that i think that imagery alone isn't necessary enough.
- I discovered so many interesting facts that i felt would really make the subject more appealing. I began to think about how i would incorporate them into pages.
- when storyboarding i used the facts guides to what imagery would be used. - the imagery responds to the facts.
- As the potential target for the book would be children; i would want the pages to be mainly visual - with small, concise facts on each page. - when planning compositions i remembered to think about leaving space for the text.
- After creating a few composition options, i decided that most of my pages would feature across a double page spread - giving more space for the scene. - i have designed the story board of my book around that basis that each individual page is square.
- Composition:
I really liked the idea of keeping the ammonite in the same place on each page. - to do this I had to re arrange my initial composition, - altering the scene around this change was slightly challenging, as i had to change it quite drastically, but I think it works successfully. - the pages flow better, and feel more centred. - when looking at the pages there is now more of a focus.
- Target audience - young children. - I've kept the scenes relatively simple and clear.
-This fits well with the media testing i have carried out. - using a lot of simple shapes, but interesting textures and bright colours will appeal to this young audience. I hope to create exciting and interesting pages that would capture their attention.
Further Experimentation - testing chosen media.
Now i have my final storyboard; its about continued testing and refining my chosen media.
- Chosen media; acrylic paint.
- method of application: Sponge and Brushes.
aimed to use the most expressive textures - to make this simplistic shapes interesting and appealing:
Further testing - using dry brush. - cutting shapes of storyboard characters.
Testing colour - swatches of texture to compare
