Visual Language - College

Task; To create a poster about an imaginary event evolved around my visual subject. i decided to focus on the mysterious depth of the ocean, advertising a trip 'Into the Abyss'.

- Aim. To work promodantly in college. I took inspiration from the work of…… and decided to college existing photographs of the ocean, as well as creating my own textures with acrylic paint.
- possible things to consider; how these would work when combined together. - would the hand made textures compliment the photography? In the finished poster i am pleased with the contrast between the two.
from drawing the roughs - reached a simple, successful composition, but I felt it was going to be challenging to create the transition from light to dark in the ocean. - i wanted this effect to be quite gradual. This was something that i had to practically test in order to achieve the right effect.

Photographs used for collaging.

- Process; i had the idea to alter the lighting on the ocean images so i had a few examples ranging from light to dark. Cutting up the images into many small pieces allowed me to create a smoother graduation in tone.
I really enjoyed college for a change, its something i have never attempted before but think the  layering has been effective. The process could be quite challenging and time consuming because it replied on much experimentation and repositioning of the pieces.
- jagged edges added something quite charming. I planned on trimming the edges initially but it gives the poster a uniques edge, - captures your eye.

-Improvements - better timing management. Ideally i would have liked to have added text. - to advertise the event. it would have better advertised as a poster.
- Mounting the poster onto white card. - because of the jagged edges, giving the poster a border would have given it a much more professional finish.

Note; I really enjoyed working with layered paper and texture and would like to explore further in future tasks.
