The process of cutting my three linos has been a very time consuming, yet enjoyable one.
there are some slight slips/mistakes that are perhaps more noticeable to my eye, but overall i am pleased witht the quality and detail of my linos. once printed, the detail becomes so much clearer!
I don't regret doing the designs i have chosen, but i times i did wonder if certain details perhaps made the job slightly too difficult. But, in the end i think it has paid off, - i really like the smaller delicate sections of detail.- like the almost 'animated' look to them. - not intended to look realistic. - i like the sections where you can really tell its printed
- having the designs drawn out - not exact lines but roughly - was a big help. - allowed me to be really considerate to where i was putting the marks - by following an plan.
- I am pleased that all the linos built up a good complimenting set of prints. They work well together.
- when cutting the lino - my hand slipped a few times - creating some unwanted cuts in my lino. - this has really annoyed me but nothing i can do. when they were actually printed - these marks are not as noticeable as i thought they would be. I hope even less so when putting mono prints behind.
- I blew up my images to the size of the lino to begin with - and 'traced' them on - pressed on the pencil. I then went over these faint lines with white pencil which i used as a guideline when cutting.
- Im really pleased with the compositions that I chose to be my finals. not just the arrange meant or meaning, but the fact that the artwork transformed really well to fit into a lino cut. seeing them actually printed now, in block lino with proper ink (instead of my homemade tests which came out very faded) i can really appreciate the artwork. I am excited to begin combining these with mono print.
Although these are going to be finals, I can tell there will still be a lot of practicing and testing to be done, by combining them with the mono print.
- As each print will be approached slightly differently. the whole thing is still a learning process and i know i will need to create a lot of examples before reaching a final that I'm happy with.
Adding colour is something that i am still yet to test in mono printing. - hoping that it will be as effective as the black!
for two prints i am still undecided on the colour. i created colour tests on a couple of testprints.
hand = orange
mouth = violet red
