Mono print testing - for hand final

HAND TEST
begun hand lino - want to create a few tests - trying to envisage where different gradients of mono print could work behind the lino.
plan - hand and maybe some other sections round side?
plan for today - just getting more use the pressure - machine, whole process - more understanding!

- cut down the board to the side of the lino cut! - that way the texture fits within the frame.
  • much better start! - clear area cut perfectly to size - perfect to work within.
  • cut hand stencil - challenge - getting in right place - figure out way to line it up.
  • again gradient - and pressure of ink was challenging
  • considered it would maybe be in colour
  • - getting much more clean cut prints - not using material - better texture.
  • combining other stencils quite successful - delicate  subtle effect is nice.
  • By the end of the session i do feel more capable of usig the monoprint process. The process is very time consuming and at the beginning seemed very hit and miss, but through practice i have developed a better understanding of how to creta different gradints of tone. There are so many possible combinations of using stencils, and relieving ink that each one may have a slightly different process or build up, but the techniques are the same - you will just end up with slight variations. I feel that this time experimenting again has made me more prepared and exited for attempting some final prints once the lino is cut.
  • - next prints - consider background details - are the shapes currently using working? - know more once the final links are cut.
- only thing i would regret about this day - was not writing enough down. even writing this blog posts i a realising that i did not right enough of the specifics. i am finding it difficult to recall exact stages.
- such as how many times to put the board through the press before reach the perfect light background? - and under what pressure? - meaning how many paper on top.
