Further process texting - lino/monoprint - final design

First final mono print test
  • created detail lino - of final design - hoping it works well printed - potential final.
    (see if successful - move forward with other two designs also in lino
  • idea to use stencils - like in induction - for each section - split up comp into three.
  • need inked up board.
  • colour - black and colour decided. - make the most of the ink relief for different levels of black.
aims;
- use mono print to enhance areas of the composition - add detail and depth to the background - bring out more in the image.

learnt a lot today.
  • difficult to line up - registration
  • using the machine - calculating what effects i want to create and how i go about doing that
  • last time - in induction - used very basic mono print methods. - a lot of guessing jet seeing how it turns out.
  • can i achieve a ‘planned’ look or is this too difficult to get head around?

    - attwmplt one - wrong pressure - too dark - cant see lino
  • but splitting up sections has worked - need to try more
  • releaving pressure more - get a feel for it once one is done. -
  • print it thug machine twice - for sky
  • change pressure - by machine / layering paper on top.
  • print right way - back wads but also remember lino is backwards! had to create new stencils because still wet ink on other side.
results;
inked up board.
  • could get marks on easily - from the mat
  • oil marks - careful, clean properly.
  • lasts a few times - once relieved to the right pressure - found you could get a few the same - by increasing the pressure slightly - paper /machine - mightt be useful when creating lots.
  • cover whole piece of paper. how could i avoid this?
  • can create prints from not only inking up the board - but also from rolling the stencils.
  • this way they were kept neatly within the boarder of the lino image.
  • more difficult to get the right pressure? to predict? - need to keep experimenting
  • only get one press from each - ink dries up quicker on the papr than if printing on board - more time consuming?

Overall, really pleased - beacue i really enjoyed the process - although long - its challenging - excited to learn more about it - try and perfect the process. more experience tests needed.
decided to move forward with the lino and mono combination.
- I think the mono print is a really good use of texture. - Our brief is only two colours plus stock so is quite limited - but I've realised - with mono prtint you can really take advantage of that with creating different levels of tone with once colour. - creating that depth and detail.

- feel lino mouth picee has translated across to lino well - other designs also look promising - gonna go for it!
