Artist Research - Eric Carle

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a children's picture book designed, illustrated and written by Eric Carle. I have enjoyed working with shape and texture recently, so found the work of his really inspiring. I am interested in his approach to image making, and would perhaps like to employ some of his techniques into my own work. 
The hand crafted pieces have such a charming quality; the vibrant colours, and amazing textures, and playful use of shape will appeal to a young audience - makes you want to touch the page.
 i love his combinations and layering of gestural and expressive marks; - how he manipulates these differently when describing separate objects, each piece is unique.
