(Missing screen shots that accompanied text, sorry)
- This Gif will be of my Sloth character eating food, it is probably my simplest Gif, and so I have decided to create this one first.
- I used dry brush and acrylic paint to re create some expressive textures that worked so well in my development. - combining different mixtures of green.
- using a stencil, i cut out each component from the texture that needed to move separately. - body, arm, head.
for the claw and face i used acrylic paint on sponge. i feel that these textures worked well together.
- My intention is to create the facial expressions digitally.
- Digital Process;
- Although it took a little time to get my head around the actual process of making a GIF, it was relatively straight forward to create this one, and i didn't run into many problems.
- Easy due to how i had created the artwork. - since each component was separate, i didn't have to re draw the whole image, it was simple a case of moving the arm and just re drawing the features.
- I recently got a Wacom tablet, and used this to digitally paint the eyes - also to apply detailing on face. - mouth movement
what i learnt;
- This GIF actually ended up being made up of a lot more frames than i initially anticipated through storyboarding. Although i followed my plan, sometimes you don't know exactly how things will look until you get into the editing process. - some altercations might need to be made. - perhaps allocate more time for next two?
- Using arrow keys to move the arm and features between slides - more accurate - gradual movement. this made the transitions smoother.
Challenges
- Due to the amount of slides, i ended up creating a lot of layers which could get quite confusing. - i found that naming these layers was a big help! found this to be an essential part of the process,
- Creating a smooth transition, - sometimes had to add more slides for it to look more natural. - altering the speed helped also.
- Getting my head around the fact that - applying something/repositioning on the initial size applied to all, and if i needed to add add something new it also had to be applied on the initial slide. - a few mix ups occurred due to this confusion.
