Russ Mills

I was initially inspired by the powerful level of energy and movement captured within his pieces. He creates a range expressive mark making - using a variety of traditional methods of painting and drawing, - combining this with digital editing. - scanning in textures of colour and photography, bringing more emotional chaos to the image.

- In places I really like his abstraction of information - the way he obscures certain details, and exaggerates others, to get the viewer to see what he wants them to see. In some places i think the different combination seem a bit overdone and confusing. but perhaps this is the effect he aims to achieve. - uses overly expressive marks to display the intense emotion. However, i like the idea of employing different textures into my work - perhaps scanning in textures - using photoshop to digitally manipulate.
