Poster - Creating the final

- I really like this painting and am choosing to develop for my final poster. I think the choose of pose perfectly represents what i am trying to capture. - i think its giving the viewer an insight into her vulnerabilities and insecurities.
- I think the choice of media also helps to expose that side of her. - the expressive marks, striking contrast of tone, bleak colour. - The way parts of her fade and disappear into the background - unimportance./feeling of loneliness.

- Began to think about the concept. How i could bring more to the image? i feel that the emotion represented through brush strokes is effective, but not enough.
- needed to be something that represented her emotion - the feeling of being trapped, enclosed. the job itself dominated her, used, taken advantage of, going against her religious beliefs - this mental torment.

- Began to experiment. -found a useful way to save time - drawing on top of print outs. - I was able to create a number of possibilities - with a clear insight into how it will look.

- using the colour red. - representing her pain and struggles
- all the anger and frustration - in her mind - through expressive marks.
- cross - representing her being held back by her religion - became a born again christian
- solid mass - weighing down - feeling uncomfortable.
- trapped within boundaries -wrapped around.

- development of mark making:

I am mostly interested in this composition. (Above) I really like the way the lines compliment the shape of her body. I like the simplicity and subtlety of the concept - it more indirectly communicating the message than others - more thought provoking and intriguing in my opinion.
- I found this extensive experimenting really useful in reaching this conclusion, from struggling with the concept -/how i was to visualise my ideas, taking time out to experiment was essential. - feel confident moving forward with this concept.

As its my final poster, i wanted to create my painting on a larger scale - matching the A2 size of the final print. - hoping to achieve a better quality. however, although still pleased with the pieces, i actually preferred the effect of my initial A4 sized painting.
- The problem with painting on this larger scale mean that the brush strokes translated too small. The larger, strokes on the smaller painting are much more effective. - more expressive - bolder using less information.
- Although i spent a whole day creating the piece i didn't use, it was still a beneficial process - to test all options in order to reach the best conclusion.

New. - too smaller brush strokes - not as impactful.
Original. - better paint quality. - better proportions.

- For my final, i scanned in my small A4 painting in a higher resolution quality, and blew it up to a larger scale in photoshop.
- I hand painted the 'band' around her; using slightly dry brush to compliment the interesting textures of the body. - i sued a lightbox to make sure the shape of the band fit correctly.
- combining the two. - editing took me a little while longer than expected. - cutting out the painted band from the background didn't leave a smooth edge - because of the dry brush effect. - using the ribber, altering the opacity and playing around with colour helped.

- using the rubber tool to give the illusion of the band wrapping around her body. This method of combining the two was pretty straight forward and easy.- I like the effect of the drop shadow tool - i applied this behind the band to create a convincing depth.

- after intensifying the tone/contrast, i began to play around with colour. - using my previous experiments as reference. I decided to go with the blue background. - representing her feeling of depression. Also think visually, the blue combined with red is the most appealing.
- scanning in a subtle background texture was a later decision but one that i think was worth it. - using similar dry brush technique helped create a more 'balanced' /successful image. harmonious. I felt it was too harsh against plain.
