Evaluation of Final GIFS

Final Three GIF's

Making gifs has been a thoroughly enjoyable yet challenging process. Learning the basic skills for creating a moving image and how to incorporate this process into our illustrative practice has been really beneficial, and i look forward to creating more GIF's in the future.
- I aimed to take full advantage of this time on Gif making, and really wanted to push my skills as an image maker, so committed a lot of my time to experimenting and learning the gif making process. Although i think gifs can be so effective when really simple, i feel that the more complex gifs i attempted to make were the most beneficial for me - i leant a lot of new skills.
-( i attempted some quite complex processes) The challenges gave me the opportunity to make a lot of mistakes - I faced quite a few problems along the way - but learnt how to resolve these mainly through the production process in photoshop.

Successes
Overall, i think my three GIF's have been quid successful.
- They work as a set. In keeping the same character throughout all three giffs, and media, they link together well. think this gave more scope to express/to present my character. - personality.
- Character design. - not really developing much character design in the past, i really liked spending time to create and develop a real personality in my sloth.
- Media aspects that i really like, brush strokes representational - charming,organic.- similar but different.
- although time consuming, i think some of the complex image making paid off. I think my final gif is my favourite, i really like the change from day-night. I could have made this a lot simpler, but i think the graduation is more believable and effective. - smooth transition between slides.

Challenges;
- Understanding and managing the amount of layers in photoshop! in future i think i would handle this better. - towards the end of the process i realised you could colour coordinate the layers! which would save a lot of time.
- perhaps the amount of layers could be reduced if edited some of the images in a separate document.
- to create smoother transitions of movement. - aim to create a smaller area of movement, and fill with more frames of slight movement.
- sometimes time consuming and confusing. -  perhaps changing my approach would have made the process less complicated?

- perhaps creating my artwork using more digital techniques could have been effective. - i did a lot of scanning in and editing my artwork, which became quite time consuming. perhaps drawing out my slight design and background in photoshop, and scanning in just the textures would have saved time - could duplicate the same texture, and apply to different frames. would this digital finish look more professional? - I did aim for them to have a hand crafted quality, but overall think that the finish could have been better.
- Perhaps with all the textures, the images felt too busy. looking back at The work of Eric Carle, I really liked the way his strong expressive and colourful textures, contrasted against the plain white background, perhaps more of a contrast would have been more effective?
